Beginning January 1, 2023 massage therapy is subject to KY sales tax UNLESS there is a script on file to indicate that massage therapy is medically necessary.

a valid script on file must also include a duration for treatment. ie: (x)number of sessions or for (x) amount of time

Having a Script on File

Talk to your prescribing practitioner about writing you a script for massage therapy. A formal diagnosis isn’t necessary but the script must include a specific duration for treatment.

As long as I have a copy of the script on file, your service is sales tax exempt. Unfortunately, this exemption can’t be applied retroactively so the date of service must fall within the prescription.
